SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION

The liturgical life of the Church revolves around the seven sacraments, with central emphasis on the Eucharist. Fundamental principles apply to catechesis for each of the sacraments.
Baptism
Prior registration at Saint John the Beloved, and attendance at a baptismal preparation class (usually held once per month in Madden Hall) are required for a child to be baptized at Saint John the Beloved. Canon Law requires also that at least one parent and at least one sponsor be catholic. A Sponsor certificate signed by the sponsor and his or her parish priest is required.
First Reconciliation and First Eucharist Children receive First Reconciliation and First Eucharist in second grade or higher at St. John the Beloved. All children who plan to receive this sacrament at Saint John's (including those who attend Summerville Catholic School) must register for sacramental preparation through the religious education office. A certificate of the child's catholic baptism must be presented at sacramental preparation registration.
Confirmation
Children receive Confirmation in seventh grade or higher at St. John the Beloved. All children who plan to receive this sacrament at Saint John's (including those who attend Summerville Catholic School) must register for sacramental preparation through the religious education office. A certificate of the child's catholic baptism must be presented at sacramental preparation registration.
Marriage Couples preparing for Marriage should contact the parish office at least six months prior to their expected wedding date to begin their preparations.
